The optimal path to immortality for the ordinary individual. The coral polyp is fleeting and minute in its lifetime, yet upon death, it leaves behind a robust calcified skeleton. Successive generations build upon this foundation, ultimately forming the grandeur of the Great Barrier Reef. Immortality is not the perpetual preservation of the self, but rather the use of one’s brief existence to leave behind a structure upon which those who follow may continue to grow.
