For her mother, the kumquat orchard served as both sanctuary and recharging station. What appeared to onlookers as a grueling physical ordeal under sun and rain was, at the energetic level, a sacred domain where she could devote herself wholly, free from the need to read others’ moods, to draw forth the vital life force.
