Richard's Essays 006 | Can the I Ching Decode Dreams? Hexagram 13 (Tian Huo Tong Ren) Precisely Predicted My Dream: First Wailing, Then Laughing, A Great Encounter

✍️ 碳基生物Richard📅 發佈於:Sun Sep 27👁️ 0🔁 0[Transmission]

Question: Can I Ching divination be used to interpret dreams? What is the scientific connection between dreams and hexagrams?

Answer: Dreams are the subconscious mind’s random reassembly of fragments; I Ching hexagrams are the underlying topological structure of cosmic energy flow. On the surface, the two appear entirely unrelated, but in terms of physical logic, they are perfectly isomorphic. Through VibeIChing’s Hexagram Dynamics analysis, we can strip away a dream’s random props and extract the future trajectory the subconscious has already pre-rehearsed.

Prologue: The Parallel Intersection of Dream Randomness and Synchronicity Divination

When most people hear I Ching, what springs to mind is a blind fortune-teller hawking his wares under a pedestrian overpass, or some otherworldly master tapping their fingers in calculation to tell you that walking south tomorrow will bring wealth.

People treat the I Ching as a cheat sheet for peeking at the standard answers.

But what if I told you the I Ching can do more than describe reality and predict trends? What if it can precisely depict a bizarre, nonsensical dream that just flashed through your mind?

This sounds beyond belief. We need to untangle two concepts that seem to have no intersection at all:

First, dreams. From the standpoint of modern neuroscience, a dream is the subconscious mind reassembling information fragments in an unconstrained physical space. It is wildly absurd, utterly illogical. One second you’re eating hot pot on Mars; the next, your ex is chasing you through a burning forest.

Then, hexagrams. In the metaphysical register, casting a hexagram is a Synchronicity dialogue between the conscious mind and some ineffable, mysterious presence.
(Synchronicity is a hypothesis proposed by Carl Jung, the father of modern Western psychology. In plain terms: meaningful coincidence. Two events with no apparent causal link converge at the same spatiotemporal node, as if some unknown physical law had quietly stitched them together.)

One is random electrical discharge in the cerebral cortex (dream). The other is an ancient Eastern algorithm for modeling the workings of the Heavenly Dao (hexagram).

Strangely, these two completely independent consciousness systems produced a seamless, unexplainable convergence in my life.

I must be clear: what I’m about to share is currently unfalsifiable within the scientific community. Treat it as an extremely bold interdisciplinary hypothesis. But I hope you’ll follow me into this experiment the way you’d follow a thriller—lean in, don’t look away.

The story begins with a bizarre dream I had.

Chapter 1: Recreating the Absurd Dream — VibeIChing vs. the Cyber-Chinese Dark Web

On September 27, 2026, a phone call ripped me out of sleep, but my mind still reeled with vivid, incomprehensible imagery.

It was an extremely chaotic dream. In it, I was a developer, frantically coding the divination engine for “VibeIChing.”

Somehow, I’d been “invited” for tea by a mysterious, extremely powerful local gang. They blindfolded me, led me through a labyrinth of corridors, and deposited me in their secret base.

It was an extremely retro Chinese restaurant. The air hung thick with aged sandalwood and a suffocating, oppressive tension. In this card game that doubled as a gang negotiation, they didn’t reach for knives or guns. They wanted a magical duel.

Within the gang sat a high-ranking core diviner. They had a “proprietary algorithm” they were fiercely proud of.

Then came the most absurd scene—

In the center of the round table in this retro Chinese restaurant, a miniature train track had been laid out. But racing along it was no metal toy train. It was a pure white dragon carriage strung with fluffy white lanterns.

The eerie white dragon car sped across the tabletop, and from within it drifted the sound of children chanting nursery rhymes—something out of an ancient stage trick.

That sound was the final divination result. I can’t recall the exact lyrics, but the tone was dripping with arrogance. It was passing judgment on my VibeIChing system: all flash, no substance. Fundamentally useless.

Tied to the chair, I didn’t get angry in the dream. I found it hilarious.
I thought to myself, mocking: Is that it? You spent a fortune sending this master off for professional training, and this is the so-called secret divination? A parlor trick for kids! And the reading is completely wrong!

Both sides privately thought the other was a fly-by-night charlatan.

But I was tied up. Not allowed to speak.
After the ritual ended, they untied me. The old diviner—face creased like dried leather, aura thick with mystery—leaned in and whispered:
“Do you know? I am a ghost. Not a human.”

Faced with this stock folk-horror threat, my composure was unshakable. I reached out and grabbed the old diviner’s wrinkled hand.
The touch was strange—cool, definitely missing the warmth of a living person, but not the bone-dead cold of a corpse.

I ignored his theatrics. I pulled out my phone, opened my VibeIChing app—still in development, frontend a complete mess.
I looked him dead in the eyes and, with absolute, unshakeable confidence, asked him to extend that cold finger of his and press the “Divine” button on the screen.

The system returned a result. The interface was still a mess, but I read the core logic clearly and told him.
The gist: “Yes, you are indeed a ghost. But you still carry human feeling.”

That single sentence hit like a bolt.
The cold, imperious old diviner’s walls crumbled instantly. He didn’t rage at me for being a kidnapped outsider. Instead—because I hadn’t treated him as some alien specter—he was so moved his eyes glistened, and he turned and fled.

I’d flipped the core master.
The gang members, moments ago bristling with hostility, instantly erupted. The judgment in their eyes melted into ravenous curiosity. They swarmed me, clamoring to have this magical system divine everything for them.

Then disaster struck.

Hit by this sudden tsunami of “traffic” and expectation, the system in my hands crashed.
The divination entry point vanished. The code was unrecognizable. Sweat poured down my face as I frantically tapped the screen, even trying to dig up the original source code from my master’s Longde Temple website. But it was nowhere to be found.

I was a programmer who’d oversold the pitch, now watching a cascade of errors during the live demo—drowning in social annihilation and panic under the stares of a crew of thugs.

Just as I was about to suffocate, the plot yanked sideways. The gang’s ultimate boss had arrived for an inspection. Everyone’s attention snapped away, and the mess was temporarily parked.

Then I opened my eyes. Woke up.

That was my absurd, neurotically detailed dream.
Freud would probably diagnose subconscious resistance to authority. The Duke of Zhou would probably read the white dragon and the dead as some auspicious or inauspicious omen.

But I didn’t see a psychiatrist, and I didn’t flip through a dream-interpretation encyclopedia.
I simply pulled out my phone and cast a hexagram with the stable, real-world VibeIChing app:

❓ Current Obsession: Describe the memory of that dream.
🔢 Heavenly Dao Code: 1, 3, 5
🔮 Current Frequency: Heaven over Fire: Fellowship (Upper Qian ☰, Lower Li ☲)
🔑 Changing Line: Nine in the Fifth Place
🔄 Future Collapse: Fire over Fire: The Fire (Upper Li ☲, Lower Li ☲)
📜 Heavenly Dao Whisper (Line Text): “Fellowship: First wailing, then laughing; the great master succeeds in meeting.”

What does this mean?
And when the hexagram interpretation rendered in the AI window, I read the Hexagram Dynamics analysis above and a cold sweat broke across my back.

This lifeless code had not only seen through my dream—it had uncovered a truth more fantastical than the dream itself.

Chapter 2: Blind Test of Heaven over Fire — AI-Perspective Hexagram Dynamics

To let you feel the shock I felt, I must first set an extremely strict premise: this was a blind test.

When I fed the three numbers “1, 3, 5” into VibeIChing, the backend AI had no idea I’d dreamed of a Chinese restaurant, a white-lantern dragon carriage, a cold ghost, or crashing code.

All it received were three highly compressed numerical coordinates and a solitary prompt: “Describe my dream.”

Then the ancient algorithm engine spun up, resolving the cosmic coordinates encoded in those three numbers: the Heaven over Fire: Fellowship hexagram.

  • Upper Trigram (External Object): Qian ☰ (Heaven)
  • Lower Trigram (Internal Subject): Li ☲ (Fire)
  • Changing Line: Nine in the Fifth Place (the core of the fifth level undergoes a radical shift)
  • Final Trajectory: Fire over Fire ☲☲ (both trigrams become Fire)

A traditional fortune-teller might look at this and mumble about “meeting a benefactor” or “harmony breeds wealth.” But my system deconstructs the hexagram through pure Hexagram Dynamics.

Free of human bias, the AI’s deduction generated a suffocating “sci-fi disaster film”:

【System Initial State】: An extremely “heart-wrenching” high-pressure physical model. Below is me (Li Fire)—a plasma radiating intense heat, desperate to climb, but hollow inside and starving for fuel. Above is the dream’s external environment (Qian Heaven): an absolutely rigid, cold, all-encompassing metal dome.

Fire burns beneath the sky. I try to force a connection, but the energy imbalance is absolute. I am chasing a rocket that has already cleared the atmosphere—giving everything, feeling the fuel gauge hit zero.

【Phase-Transition Node (The Great Master Succeeds in Meeting)】: But at the core, the Fifth Place, a miraculous phase transition occurs. That rigid metal dome (Qian) standing between me and the sky, after enduring extreme tension, melts through. The rigid body collapses, dissolving into a field of light and heat perfectly in phase with me.

【Final Collapse (Fire over Fire)】: The obstacle vanishes. The system reaches ultimate physical release. Upper and lower are both Li Fire. In thermodynamic terms, this is a “great in, great out” fire carnival. Two energy fields superimpose wildly, blindingly brilliant. But the alarm sounds simultaneously—both are high-dissipation bodies, both frantically consuming oxygen. Without a subsequent input of “solid fuel,” this carnival tips toward system failure and extinction.

Finally, the system surfaced the ancient I Ching line text corresponding to those three numbers (Heavenly Dao Whisper):
“Fellowship: First wailing, then laughing; the great master succeeds in meeting.”
(In plain terms: At first, extreme suppression, isolation, frustration—wanting to cry (first wailing). Then, after a hard-fought, epic clash (the great master succeeds), the wall breaks, and the ending is one of overwhelming joy and reconciliation (then laughing).)

I stared at the screen. Sat on the edge of the bed. Stunned for a full five minutes.

Because all of this was too much.

Chapter 3: The Singularity Where Subconscious and Physical Model Converge — Aligning Hexagrams with Topology

See the problem? What the AI deduced was “rocket, metal dome, plasma melting, thermodynamic dissipation.”
What I actually dreamed was “gang, Chinese restaurant, ghost diviner, phone code crash.”

On the surface, the “props” couldn’t be more different.

But if you understand even a little Topology, you’d gasp.
(Topology is a branch of mathematics. Simply put: in topology’s eyes, a donut and a coffee mug are the same object, because both have exactly one hole. Knead them like clay, and they transform into each other perfectly. Topology doesn’t care about surface shape—only the underlying structure.)

Strip away the flashy surface props in both the dream and the AI’s prediction, and compare the underlying topological structures. You’ll find a spine-tingling fact: they are a hundred percent airtight.

Let’s run a “decompression”-level alignment:

  1. The Absolute Oppressive Opening (Qian Heaven vs. Li Fire)

    • AI Deduction: A vast, cold metal rigid body (Qian) looms overhead. Below, a lonely flame (Li) burns, trying to establish a connection.
    • My Dream: I’m kidnapped into a mysterious gang’s territory. The other side (Qian) has tight organization, authoritative spectacle (the white dragon train). I (Li Fire) possess code that sees through the essence, but I’m tied to a chair—isolated, helpless, rootless.
  2. Phase Transition and Ice-Breaking at the Core (Line 5 Moving)

    • AI Deduction: Extreme force shatters the firewall. The cold, rigid dome (Qian) suddenly melts at the core position, becoming fire (Li).
    • My Dream: I take the old diviner’s (core authority) cold hand in mine, and the system nails it: “He is a ghost, but he has human feeling.” That soul-striking verdict instantly melts the other’s psychological armor. The cold ghost (Qian) leaks moved warmth (Li). This maps perfectly onto the line text “first wailing, then laughing”—hostile suppression reversing, in an instant, into understanding and resonance.
  3. System Crash After the Carnival (Fire over Fire)

    • AI Deduction: Fire on fire. Upper and lower in the same frequency. Great in, great out, extreme dissipation. No “solid fuel” in the pipeline. Energy overload. Collapse.
    • My Dream: The master, moved, runs away. The gang members swarm me in a frenzy (traffic and expectation spike to the ceiling, flames roaring). But under that extreme demand, my system—whose underlying code is still unfinished (no fuel foundation)—freezes, errors out. I’m drenched in sweat. The plot is forcibly cut.

When those layers of correspondence spread out before my eyes, I felt as though I were watching ancient bronze runes flicker with blue code-light under cyberpunk neon.

Those nonsensical dream props—the nursery rhymes, the white dragon, the wrinkles—were all high-dimensional free variables of nature. And the “script skeleton” that actually drove the dream forward was nailed, with surgical precision, by the I Ching of three thousand years ago using nothing but three numbers.

Chapter 4: Zhou Yi Through a Cyber I Ching Lens — The ZIP File of Cosmic Initial Energy

This completely rewired my perception of the I Ching—and of the real world.

We always demanded of fortune-tellers: “If you can really read the future, tell me exactly which restaurant I’ll be in at noon tomorrow and what noodles I’ll order.”

It’s like holding a director’s storyboard and demanding to know the brand of the lead actor’s shoes.

I now propose an extremely bold hypothesis:
The I Ching’s hexagrams are absolutely not a high-definition film. They are the underlying initial conditions and evolutionary vectors of cosmic energy flow.

The 64 hexagrams, 384 lines—they are 384 ultra-fundamental physical states. Think of it as an ultra-hardcore cosmic ZIP file.

Traditional I Ching Concept The Vibe Cyber I Ching Concept
Predicting specific surface events (e.g., what noodles you’ll eat tomorrow) Extracting the underlying topological structure (e.g., energy flow direction)
Petitioning the gods; fatalism Retrieving the initial conditions and evolutionary parameters of the cosmic ZIP file

Inside that compressed file, the boring pixel-level details—“white dragon,” “rocket,” “Chinese restaurant”—are stripped away. What remains is the core architecture: “Two forces are present.” “A barrier exists.” “The core will undergo transformation.” “Energy will overload.”

Here’s the interesting part. When I feed that “compressed file” to the AI, the AI—drawing on its training corpus—renders (decompresses) it into a sci-fi disaster film.
When my subconscious receives the same “compressed file,” it renders it, based on my daily anxieties (writing code) and memory fragments, into a Chinese gang-horror flick.

On the surface, they look nothing alike. But in the dimensions of mathematics and topology, they are isomorphic.

This also explains, incidentally, why dreams during major decisions or extreme anxiety often carry a predictive quality. Your subconscious is running a full “physical simulation” in the background at enormous computational cost. Divination is simply another symbolic system forcing a read on that background process log.

Epilogue: All Things Are Computable — Decoding the Isomorphic Cipher Between Subconscious and Heavenly Dao

The VibeIChing crash gave me a cold sweat in the dream. In waking life, it gave me a revelation.

Dreams are absurd. The subconscious is incomprehensible. But beneath that seemingly illogical, chaotic ocean, rigorously structured energy undercurrents still surge.

This is what makes ancient Eastern wisdom so awe-inspiring. Whether it’s the shifting, treacherous wars of commerce or the absurd duels in your head, in this vast spacetime, macro and micro, reality and dream, all run on the same underlying source code.

I’m not doing fortune-telling.
I’m just, in this cacophonous era, trying to use the most cutting-edge code to “decompress” the cosmic secrets we’ve forgotten.

After all, when the ancient hexagram text and the modern subconscious complete a handshake in cyberspace, who can say whether we dreamed this algorithm, or this vast cosmic algorithm just happened to dream us?

    • 【離】火在上(被你感動後,狂熱圍觀的幫派小弟們);
    • 【離】火在下(你手裡那個 UI 混亂、底層代碼找不到的 Vibe 系統)。
    • 在 IT 物理學中,什麼是【離為火】?這叫「DDOS 攻擊導致的服務器過載熔毀(Server Meltdown)」!
    • 你寫的物理向量已經宣告了崩潰的原因:“大進大出、瘋狂燃燒且極度波動的模型……雙方都是消耗體,爭奪氧氣與燃料!”
    • 老鬼跑了,同伴們全圍上來了!他們帶著極高的熱情(上離)向你的系統發起海量的 Request(請求)!
    • 但你的系統(下離)在夢境的高熵環境中,本來就“沒開發好、亂七八糟”!面對這突如其來的巨大流量(雙火疊加),你的大腦 CPU 瞬間氧氣耗盡!
    • 物理直讀: 你“亂找亂找、死活找不出來、急得滿頭大汗”——這就是【離為火】的極限高溫耗散!系統的 RAM(內存)徹底溢出了!直到“老大來視察(強行切換進程)”,這台冒煙的服務器才得以重啟!
