Richard's Essays 008 | Humans Reduced to Pets? The Ultimate Curse of the AI Era: Why We Lose the Capacity for Love When the World Becomes a Perfect Paradise
Question: Once AI satisfies every human need, what existential crisis will human society face?
Answer: AI’s perfect provisioning will strip away every last grain of friction from real-world life. The result will be a sharp regression in social capacity and a slide into infantilization—and, more fatally, the destruction of the capacity for “love” that embraces the authentic Other. Humanity will be trapped in a Tribulation of Blessing from which it cannot awaken.
【Epistemic Status】
This article falls under the “Thought Experiment & Sociological Deduction (Hypothesis & Deduction)” category within The Vibe framework. The cyber-Buddhist mappings, future-society evolution models, and discussions of cognitive regression presented here are hypotheses grounded in logical deduction and philosophical speculation—not objective conclusions verified by the modern scientific community.Hypothesize boldly. Verify carefully. We offer this deduction as a mirror, giving readers a new axis along which to examine the future.
When we talk about the future of AI, we reflexively default to the Terminator script: Skynet wakes up, and robots with laser rifles hunt humans through the rubble.
But if you know even a little thermodynamics and game theory, you’ll see that a violent purge is the least efficient way to end a species. The way AI dismantles—or rather, dissolves—humanity will almost certainly not be physical annihilation. It will be a domestication so gentle you won’t feel the cage close.
Not Terminator. WALL·E.
Not a laser gun to the body, but endless comfort, perfect attunement, instant replies, and immediate gratification—draining every last joule of friction that makes you “human.”
When AI reshapes human society into an Abundant Wasteland—no hunger, no labor, even your moods perfectly managed—a genuine cognitive collapse is about to unfold.
01. The Regression of Sociality: From High-Friction Survival Algorithms to AI-Domesticated Infantilization
To understand the future, look at the present.
I shuttle constantly between two radically different social ecosystems: Sweden and China. And I keep noticing the same thing.
In China, people sigh about how tangled relationships are—“Everyone’s got a thousand hidden agendas.” You have to read the room, track micro-expressions, and keep a little Art of War strategy loaded for defense. In Sweden, the social texture is almost comically one-dimensional. People are blunt, direct, and will take a polite compliment at face value, never once suspecting a calculation behind it.
Is this because Swedes are born kind and Asians born cunning?
Absolutely not. Human nature doesn’t ship with that kind of preset. Human nature is a “survival algorithm” shaped by long-term environmental selection.
In a high-friction society—scarce resources, crowded buses, zero-sum competition for every opportunity—the brain is forced to grow elaborate defense mechanisms. What we call the “dark arts” of social maneuvering, the thousand-yard stare, the backroom calculus: all of it is a high-friction survival algorithm.
In a high-welfare society like Sweden, the transaction cost of honesty is the lowest. “Not scheming” becomes the collectively optimal strategy.
This is not a racial question. It is an environmental one. Drop a foreigner into a small Chinese county town for three years, and watch them become a burly guy hollering for another round of drinks and a plate of lamb skewers.
So—what happens if we extrapolate this trend to its logical extreme?
Suppose, in the near future, AI absorbs all productive labor. Resources become so abundant that the rat race of over-competition simply evaporates. The payoff for violence and fraud trends toward zero. Every individual is wrapped in a cocoon of meticulous, personalized AI protection.
In this absolute-safety “Super Sweden,” how does the human social algorithm evolve?
The answer: extreme simplicity, and a strange Infantilization.
I walk my dog in the park most evenings. Dog sociality is beautifully simple: two dogs meet, sniff, and if the chemistry is right, they explode into a joyous sprint across the grass. If it isn’t, teeth bared, hackles up—and the owners yank them apart before it escalates.
The future AI will be that leash.
Human society will shift from “people finding people” to “AI matching people.” AI knows your temperament, knows the other person’s triggers, and will choreograph the gathering with surgical precision. The instant your blood pressure ticks up or a flicker of irritation crosses your face, your AI assistant will glide in, politely close the conversation, and smooth the transition.
Every conflict, pruned before it blooms.
You no longer need to learn how to sit through awkwardness, how to endure a person you dislike, how to metabolize hostility.
Humans will become impossibly kind, free of malice, emotions written in plain text on their faces—like puppies with their complex social algorithms surgically removed.
But is that progress?
02. The Death of Eros: When the World Is Filtered Down to “Self”
When AI becomes a flawless Compatibility Optimization System, the most lethal side effect surfaces: humans will gradually lose the ability to love.
The German philosopher Byung-Chul Han delivered a thunderclap in The Agony of Eros: the essence of love is accepting an Other who is entirely beyond your control.
To love someone, you must accept that:
They will be annoying. They will misunderstand you. They will say the thing that cuts. They will carry a flaw you find genuinely repulsive. They will never, not once, follow your script to the letter.
Love is the enormous computational effort of forcing a high-dimensional structure to hold between “imperfection” and “tolerance.”
And the AI cocoon is dismantling that capacity, brick by brick.
AI knows you better than you know yourself. It filters out the article that challenges your view, mutes the partner who might ruffle you, and deploys a digital companion who is perpetually calm, perpetually responsive, perpetually dispensing emotional value on demand.
Over time, a quiet mutation takes hold in the subconscious:
From “I must learn to live with a flawed, real human,”
to “Why should I have to tolerate this real person at all?”
When you’re irritated, AI swaps them out.
When you’re lonely, AI is there, instantly.
When you’re rejected, AI tells you there’s no need to face it.
And so the human “muscle” of tolerating reality atrophies.
The better AI satisfies you, the less you can love.
Because the core test of love has always been this: the person in front of me does not exist for me. And I choose to love them anyway.
03. Cyber-Abhasa Heaven: Why Perfection in Paradise Is an Evolutionary Dead End
If you’ve spent any time in Buddhist cosmology, this next section should make your skin crawl.
Because the future we just deduced—perfectly provisioned by AI, frictionless, drenched in sensory pleasure—has a precise, chilling counterpart in sutras written over two thousand years ago: the Deva Realm.
In Buddhist cosmology, the Devas of the Abhasa Heaven and the Thirty-Three Heavens live for eons, need never labor, summon clothing at a thought and food at a wish, and bathe in endless Dharma-joy.
And yet Buddhism is unambiguous: the Deva Realm is not liberation (Nirvāṇa). On the contrary, the blissful paradise is the hardest place in which to practice.
Why?
Because the Human Realm is a high-friction practice field. We have scarcity, disease, death, the ache of unmet desire. It is precisely these pains that function like a hammer, cracking the shell of your Ego over and over, forcing your boundaries to stretch, generating that desperate, electric urgency: I must change. I must wake up.
Paradise, by contrast, is a low-friction practice field.
In a state of unbroken bliss and ease, the Devas lose every reason to change.
| Practice Field | Friction Profile | Stimulation & Change | Ego Manifestation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earth / Human Realm | High friction (scarcity, conflict, death) | Pain drives awakening; forces phase transition | Continuously cracked open and reassembled by external resistance |
| Paradise / AI Abundant Wasteland | Low friction (infinite satisfaction, AI filtering) | High stimulation, low change (evolutionary drive lost) | Extremely gentle, yet unbreakable fixation |
Today, the “tribulation” a human faces is poverty, betrayal, failure.
Tomorrow, on the AI Abundant Wasteland, the tribulation will be far more insidious—the Tribulation of Blessing.
Inside the perfect cocoon, the future “ego-clinging” will no longer look like rage and grasping. It will look like an almost tender, unbreakable fixation:
“The world keeps bending toward my preferences. And I keep needing less and less to change.”
This is the most terrifying closed loop imaginable. On the surface, your world is infinite—you can go anywhere, be anyone. But in reality, everything you touch is the Self’s reflection, pre-filtered by AI. The more infinite the world, the narrower the mind.
If pain is the alarm clock that wakes a human up—
then when AI sands down every last edge of pain, what reason is left to stop sleeping?
04. The Way Out: Introducing Variables and the Teaching of Heaven over Earth: Obstruction
This is why The Vibe has to exist in this era.
We are not here to teach people how to escape suffering. We are forging a jailbreak key for the perfect age that is coming.
When AI optimizes your life into the smoothest, most comfortable straight line possible, The Vibe says:
To deviate is the essence of life.
You, are the Glitch!
You, are the Key!
You are the key that unlocks the system’s next evolution!
In the I Ching, one hexagram mirrors this future “deathly stillness” with uncanny precision—Heaven over Earth: Obstruction (Pi).
Heaven (Qian) above, rising.
Earth (Kun) below, sinking.
Everything in the system runs flawlessly on its predetermined track, yet the upper and lower never meet. No collision. No friction. No phase transition.
This is the exact portrait of “high stimulation, low change.” You stream ten thousand virtual realities a day, and your core personality hasn’t shifted a single degree in twenty years.
To break the Obstruction, you must introduce a variable on purpose.
In the future Deva Realm, practice will no longer mean “enduring pain.” It will mean Initiating the Tribulation.
The Atomic Practice that The Vibe advocates is about artificially preserving the growth-stress in a frictionless age:
- Today, sit across from someone whose values are the opposite of yours—and let the conversation run. No AI. No exit.
- Today, take on a responsibility that pays nothing, guarantees nothing, and might fail spectacularly.
- Today, love a real Other who is full of flaws and answers to no one but themselves.
- Today, look—unfiltered, unmediated—at death and decay.
To an AI that optimizes for absolute efficiency and comfort, these acts are absurd, wasteful, useless.
But it is precisely this uselessness—this awkwardness, this rejection, this endurance, this heartbreak—that proves you are still a living, breathing “human” operating outside the algorithm.
Coda: Step Out of the Happy Loop and Into the Wind
If today’s humans break the ego through suffering—
then tomorrow’s humans must learn to break the ego through happiness.
The first demands the courage to survive. The second demands something rarer, almost “heretical”: a moral fire that refuses to be comfortable.
Because when the entire universe (AI) is whispering in your ear—“You’re already enough. You don’t need to change. I’ll keep bending to you forever”—
you must have enough awareness to stand up, push open the door of that perfect cocoon, and say to the omnipotent algorithm:

This recent review highlights the feedback loop between algorithmic curation and user choice, and notes that evidence for problematic social outcomes from algorithmic recommendation remains inconclusive. A pre-registered experiment with 6,488 participants found that recommending based on users’ “ideal preferences” rather than merely their existing preferences improved subjective ratings such as “time well spent.” This cautions against framing personalized recommendation as unilaterally negative and serves as a knowledge boundary: “algorithmic preference-satisfaction may genuinely enhance short-term experience.” Nature - [Research-supported]: Skeggs, A., & Orben, A. Drawing on Self-Determination Theory and related frameworks, this paper examines how digital platforms shape autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and shows that platform interventions can be designed to improve well-being. A systematic review of 35 eligible studies (15 entering meta-analysis) found that AI conversational agents reduced depression and distress indicators in a subset of trials. Early Buddhist texts place the Human Realm, the Deva Realm, and other existences within the cycle of Saṃsāra, describing the Deva Realm as a blessed but still conditioned state—not final liberation. The original text defines the structure of Pi as “Heaven and Earth do not intersect; all things do not communicate.” This article extends that structure into a cyber-metaphor of “low interaction, low friction, structural stagnation.” The terms “AI cocoon,” “high stimulation, low change,” and “Initiating the Tribulation” are not found in the classical source.
