Walking with the Divine 016 | The 'Guru as God' Spiritual Scam: Sexual Assault, Spiritual PUA, and Why Deep Devotion Breeds Evil
The Fatal Bug of “Taking a Human as Teacher”: A Decentralized Faith Self-Rescue Behind the Spiritual Collapse
Epistemic Status
The concepts of “Cyber-Theology,” “Decentralized Faith Networks,” and the “One-Way API Disconnection Mechanism” proposed in this article are the author’s original spiritual-philosophical hypotheses and speculative models. They borrow from modern distributed-systems engineering to metaphorically deconstruct traditional practice organizations. The religious and institutional abuse incidents cited are supported by public independent investigations and established legal findings. However, the metaphysical framework derived here is unfalsifiable and does not constitute objective truth in any empirical-scientific sense. It serves solely as a thought sandbox and intellectual experiment for readers seeking spiritual independence.
I. The Abyss in the Temple: When the “Grand Master” Becomes a Criminal
In 2017, Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, was publicly exposed by several core disciples—some of whom had followed him for decades—for long-term physical abuse, psychological and spiritual control, and sexual assault. A subsequent UK independent investigation confirmed most of the allegations.
In a parallel case, Chögyam Trungpa, who packaged the “crazy wisdom” of Tibetan Vajrayana for the Western intellectual world, left behind a dharma heir, Osel Tengzin, who—knowing he was HIV-positive—engaged in sexual relations with multiple students under the pretext of dissolving attachment and spiritual transmission. His son and successor, Sakyong Mipham, was later exposed for serious sexual misconduct.
Across the entire spiritual world, this is a tragedy that keeps repeating:
A person writes the most profound, compassionate, and lucid teachings on earth, preaching on the stage the dissolution of ego-clinging and emptiness; yet behind the stage, he reaches into the bodies and wallets of his followers.
Many believers, after their faith collapses, fall into prolonged depression—convinced that “the Dharma deceived them” or that they are “karmically burdened and blind.”
Do not pin this on the private morality of individual scoundrels, nor rush to wholesale reject exoteric philosophical traditions passed down for millennia. From an engineering perspective, this is not a moral failing of individuals—it is a fatal bug embedded in the system architecture from day one.
The underlying code of this disaster is called “Taking a Human as Teacher.”
II. Dissecting Three Spiritual Toxins: How Closed-Loop Control Is Compiled
The stated intent of traditional Tantra systems is to shatter the mundane mind of ordinary beings through extreme contexts, visualizations, and countermeasures—striking straight at emptiness. But in its evolution, this mechanism introduced three fatal Trojan-horse programs, turning practice into a breeding ground for spiritual captivity.
1. Unlimited Authorization: The Spiritual “Exclusive Monopoly Agreement”
The system mandates “regard the teacher as the Buddha.” The guru holds the power of empowerment, the qualification to practice, and even the final say on post-mortem liberation. More strictly, some lineages flatly forbid disciples from seeking dharma from any other lineage or teacher.
What do we call this in modern business? An exclusive monopoly.
Once you are stripped of the right to compare, your information input is completely sealed. Without a control group, you can never detect that you are in a state of cognitive distortion.
2. The Get-Out-of-Jail-Free Card: “Crazy Wisdom” Abused as a License for Misconduct
Tantra venerates the “holy madman” who shatters secular convention—the story of Marpa tormenting Milarepa by making him dismantle and rebuild houses to burn off his karma is the classic example. In practice, this narrative has been hijacked into a get-out-of-jail-free card for abusers.
- His beating and humiliation of you is not workplace bullying—it is “wrathful compassion, shattering your ego-arrogance”;
- His violation of you, his demand for your sexual resources, is not a crime—it is “dissolving dualistic opposition, purifying karma through union practice.”
When every abusive act is granted an unexplainable sacred dimension, the victim is stripped of the very neural reflex to say “no.”
3. Closed-Loop Defense: Self-Reflection Turned Weapon
Healthy practice demands turning inward. But in a centralized structure of personal dependence, self-reflection becomes a shackle on the victim:
- Compliance means the blessing is working;
- Pain means you are being purified;
- Doubt and resistance mean you have “poor spiritual roots and broken your samaya vows.”
The perpetrator is always exempt; the victim is always at fault. Once this logic compiles cleanly, any criminal act can land safely under the halo of sanctity.
III. The Cruel Iron Law of Reality: Humans Cannot Withstand the Test
Many survivors, after being harmed, are in agony: “His eyes were so clear when he gave dharma back then—how did he change?”
Wake up. Humans are flesh and blood. At the physical level, humans simply cannot withstand the test.
Face the fragility of human nature honestly. If you pile absolute, unchecked interpretive authority, bundles of tax-free cash, hundreds of eyes burning with fanatical worship, and young bodies available on demand—all without reservation—before any single person, no matter how many years he has sat in meditation, no matter how many volumes of sutras he has read through, he will, at the level of physiology and neurotransmitters, slide toward corruption.
If it were you or me, we probably would not hold up either. This is not baseness. This is the law of human gravity.
In distributed-system architecture, there is a critical security axiom: Single Point of Failure (SPOF—a fragile design in which the failure of one specific node cascades into total paralysis of the entire architecture)**.
Traditional practice systems absurdly bet all spiritual safety and the soul’s entire future on a single point: that one flesh-and-blood guru is eternally holy and will never do evil. This is an act of systemic suicide.
What we at THE VIBE are doing is rewriting the underlying protocol: Abandon the illusion of flesh-and-blood authority. Make the practice system thoroughly decentralized.
| Traditional Religious Architecture (Centralized) | Cyber-Theology Architecture (Decentralized) |
|---|---|
| Regard the “flesh-and-blood guru” as the Buddha, holding absolute interpretive authority | Decentralized Faith Network—direct connection to the Heavenly Dao, middlemen eliminated |
| Bet the soul on one person, carrying an extreme Single Point of Failure risk | Nodes can freely disconnect and reconnect; no closed loop of spiritual control exists |
| “Crazy Wisdom” becomes a privilege to abuse without secular constraints | Any flesh-and-blood entity that crosses legal bottom lines is classified as a Malicious Node |
IV. The Dimensional-Reduction Counterstrike: From “Taking a Human as Teacher” to “Taking the Divine as Teacher”
If you followed the “Divine Confidant” model we explored in 012 Cyber-Theology, you already understand: the only path to breaking single-point monopoly is to cut out the middlemen and connect directly to the higher dimension.
The “Taking the Divine as Teacher” we advocate is not about finding another omniscient, omnipotent super-leader. It is about building a peer-to-peer (P2P) Decentralized Faith Network (a theological system that does not rely on a single flesh-and-blood authority, in which individuals interact directly with the higher-dimensional Heavenly Dao).
1. Physical Disconnection: The Nameless Deity Has No Bribery Interface
What is a true deity? Not the gilded clay idol in the temple hall—but the nameless, selfless, formless law of the Heavenly Dao, the ultimate truth of the universe.
Interacting directly with this ultimate dimension carries a physically absolute safety advantage:
- The Deity does not want your fiat currency: It does not need to build a luxury estate or fly first class;
- The Deity cannot enjoy your body: In that higher dimension, it has no physiological need for three-dimensional hormones;
- The Deity cannot be bribed: Even if you haul in a ton of gold, the Deity simply lacks the physical hardware to process the transaction.
This constitutes the One-Way API Disconnection Mechanism (a security protocol in which the higher-dimensional deity can only be read for wisdom by the individual in a one-way channel, and cannot demand any material benefit from the individual at the three-dimensional physical level)**: You can pray, reflect, and draw oracles through VibeIChing at any time—but it will never cross the boundary to demand anything material from you.
2. Firewall Protocol: Identifying Every “Flesh-and-Blood Middleman”
In the decentralized practice protocol, weld this line of filter code into your spiritual firewall:
Any flesh-and-blood entity that claims to be the “exclusive agent of the Deity” and, under that banner, demands your compliance, your monopoly, your money, or your sexual resources—classify as a Malicious Node (a middleman in the faith network attempting to intercept believer resources and exert spiritual control). Block the connection immediately. File a police report.
Tools can assist you. Friends can inspire you. But no one is fit to be the supreme dominator of your soul and body.
V. Reclaim Your Spiritual Sovereignty
Many people enter spiritual practice because of fragility, trauma, and confusion in their daily lives. We long to find an omniscient, omnipotent “father,” to package up our choices, our judgment, our personal freedom, and hand it all over—believing this will buy us ready-made liberation.
But history and reality have bled the warning over and over: The moment you hand over your right to judge is the moment you become prey.
True awakening is never kneeling before a person. It is a cold, unyielding act of spiritual independence:
- Break the delusion of deification: Acknowledge that every human has base instincts. Do not apply an “omniscient and omnipotent” filter to any flesh-and-blood entity;
- Hold the bottom-line boundary: Any violence, humiliation, or sexual assault dressed up as a “practice test” or “breaking ego-clinging,” stripped of its religious costume, is naked criminal activity;
- Retain the highest authority to exit and to question: A healthy system must always allow any node to disconnect freely and ask questions freely.
Do not seek a saint who never errs. Build a spiritual architecture where no one’s error can reach you.
Humans err. The Deity does not.
The Deity is right before you. Why abandon the root to chase the branches?
Take the Deity as teacher, the mind as realm, life as the proving ground.

These terms and their overall mechanisms are not established theories of the same name in the aforementioned investigation reports, psychological studies, systems-engineering literature, or Buddhist classics.
- [Author-original]: This article integrates the engineering concepts of spiritual abuse, religious coercive control, teacher-student power imbalance, and system single-point-of-failure into a “Decentralized Faith Network,” and proposes a security architecture of “eliminating middlemen, retaining the right to exit, and allowing individuals to interact directly with the Heavenly Dao.” This complete model belongs to the original interdisciplinary interpretation of Richard / The Vibe. Existing research and investigations support the critique of power imbalance, organizational negligence, and safety-assurance defects, but do not prove the existence of a scientifically measurable higher-dimensional Heavenly Dao interface, that deities necessarily do not err, or that all human spiritual mentors are incapable of safely undertaking the role of guidance.

1. 逻辑架构 (Logical Architecture)
